Introduction

The purpose of this course is to explore in some depth the key beliefs within the Science of Mind philosophy. At the same time, you’re invited to discover what you believe—about life, yourself, your world, and your higher power.

You’ll find that your beliefs have shaped your experience of the world. With self-reflection, you will have a greater understanding of exactly how your life got to be the way it is—and how you can change it.

No prior knowledge of the Science of Mind philosophy is required.

Ernest Holmes, Founder of the Science of Mind

The “What We Believe” declaration of 11 key principles was created by Ernest Holmes, the founder of the Science of Mind philosophy. It appeared  in the first issue of the Science of Mind magazine published in 1927. This internationally distributed magazine is still being published and each issue still contains “What We Believe.”

“What We Believe” is a comprehensive statement of Science of Mind beliefs, but it is also an example of how our beliefs reflect and influence our lives. This course will examine each belief in some detail to explain Ernest Holmes’ meaning of it and to show how it relates to his overall cosmology.

By the end of the course you will be able to understand how our fundamental beliefs affect all areas of our lives. You will also have an in-depth look at how Ernest Holmes synthesized teachings from the world’s great religions into a cohesive and powerful set of universal beliefs.
