A Different Way of Being

A couple thousand years ago, a wandering rabbi named Jesus, threatened the ruling elite with counter-culture teachings that emphasized empathy, social justice, mercy and peace-making. He challenged the hierarchies of wealth and power with his alternative plan for how to live and be in the world, and those principles are just as relevant today. “Blessed are the Peacemakers” is a famous phrase from the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount. In this talk we will explore those teachings and our role in creating a more compassionate world.

We wrap-up our series “Renewal of the Self” by looking at what it means to reinvent ourselves. To do so, we take a fresh look at what Jesus meant when he said we must be “born again” if we are to experience the Kingdom of God. Turns out, being “born again” in the language of Jesus, Northern Aramaic, has nothing to do with being baptized and everything to do with our inner lives; we reinvent ourselves from the inside out.
